Lefty tighty. Get it righty.
Last year I got some free gels. In this case it goes something like: Starter - pork pie; Main - Peanut butter & marmite butty; dessert - gel.

Approaching perfection from a distance.
I think the only time I'd consider using gels is if I suddenly decided to do a 100 time trial, and the chances of that happening are a little less than winning the lottery - considering I never buy a ticket.

It may need some experimentation on your part to find out how your body reacts to endurance riding and how much effort you are putting in. I know when I do very fast long sportives ( 100 mile plus) and I am pushing hard all the way, my body refuses to take on solids after a while and I can only get down gels and liquids. Also our club run always stops at a cafe ( 60 -90 miles) . If I take on something like a giant sausage roll I really suffer on the way back, also most other guys on the club go for semething light, beans on toast etc. The club run inevitabely ends up in a fast run back.
My favourite at the moment is Nature Valley soft and chewy bars. I chop the top of the packets before I start to make it easy to get them out, not too dry so go down easy. I am not a great fan of the stop and eat then carry on scenario as I lose my rythm and start to cool down etc. If there is a feed station, jump off fill bottle and go!.
Depends on your style really if you are going steady a fry up can be nice!

For rides up to a couple of hours, I rarely eat or even drink. More than a couple of hours, will have a few breakfast bars with me. If on an organised sportive, they usually have food stops, which seem to be sufficient.

I'm also looking for a dietary plan.

I think "food" assumes you are eating in some predetermined healthy way, or even know what healthy is.

Cereal bars, flapjacks jelly babies, a ham and cheese sarnie and some crisps when I did Ride London. Porridge beforehand. Lots of water and squash/watered down oasis or similar

I had gels but they are foul, so never had one, jelly babies far nicer!
