A friend has got a Focus MTB with a broken frame. It’s a full suspension bike, the chain stays hinge just behind the bottom bracket, part of the hinge point has sheared off.

The sheared part looks to be well beyond repair, does anyone know if it is possible to get hold of a replacement chain stay section?

Unfortunately my photos always rotate when I upload them, I have no idea how to sort that out!

I presume it's out of WARRANTY?

If not then I'd look at that. I had a Focus Cayo Pro frame replaced under warranty via Wiggle, (bought new from them). It wasn't the quickest process, but it got me a new, (and updated), frame at the end of it.

Even if out of warranty I'd still fire an email off to Focus as you just never know, and if you don't ask you don't get as they say.

Hope he gets something sorted :okay:

Looks like a Focus First, which is around 12 years old or so. Focus have various exploded diagrams of their current and recent bikes but don't list this one. You might pick up a used frame or bike to swap it over but I'm guessing these aren't especially common. It might be N+1 time.

Just to update this thread, my friend found someone to weld the sheared section back on, it’s a bit untidy as he wanted to leave more weld material in place for strength. The bike is back up and running again. Clearly there is a substantial risk that it will break again but it will only be a repeat of what happened first time around. Hopefully!
