Focus Frame BB30

Sorry everyone I have yet another question.

Having brought the parts over the winter I am about to transfer the parts from my Bianchi over on to the Focus Frame.

When it comes to the bottom bracket I have two choices and I can use either a Campag Triple BB or a Shimano Hollowtech 11 Tiagra BB.

Both of these screw in ok but I have been informed that whatever I use I will need to use some form of adaptor so could I ask whether anyone can confirm that this info is correct and if it is where can I buy these adaptors.

I guess nobody answered this question for 24 hours because like me they think it strange, it was 1st April after all.

AFAIK all Campag triple bb's have square tapered spindles, while Tiagra Hollowtech II is an outboard bb - the spindle is integrated with the chainset. Further I can't see why anybody would want to make adaptors between any Campag and Shimano's bbs - bb's need not be expensive to start off with.

Imho your chainset can only be compatible with either one of the above bb's, or neither. Detailed information on the chainset will be helpful.

Looking at Zinns book, it states on Campag BB30, to install Campag UT or Fulcrum RT cranksets into a BB30 frame, you must first install Campag/Fulcrum press in adaptors...and you need a special tool to do this. You can do it with care with a headset press.

Don't know if that helps ?

Thank you RecordAceFromNew and gbb for responding to my query.I had not thought about it being misconstrued as an April Fool Joke. But then driving to our daughters the wife and I fell for the Ken Bruce one.

I think my little exercise of swapping frames may be more difficult than I thought it would be.I have more info on the Hollow tech crank and it is a FC 4503 and the outside bearings screw straight into the frame.Trying to solve this problem I have found these that do the job

http://clee-cycles.co.uk/cc/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/895

but they look the same as the Shimano fittings so I am wondering whether they are the correct fittings I need.Any further advice you can give me would be welcomed and given the lack of response and why it could be so is comforting to know because our forum colleagues on here and the CTC site are always helpful.

I was thrown by the 2nd paragraph of your original post, where it reads like you "can use either the Campag triple bb or a Hollowtech II" with the chainset from the Bianchi. If the chainset is FC4503, it needs the 6806 bb and an adaptor for your frame. The adaptor is commonly available e.g. this while more details are here.

First of all RecordAceFromNew thanks for staying with me and giving me the information that you did. I appreciate the time you have spent gathering this and if you are ever near Croydon let me know and I will buy you a drink.

Anyway I have attached this photo to try and show you why I am perplexed on how to solve the problem. As you can see the thread is quite deep and if you look through the BB there is no lip for either the clip or bearing so it seems to me that this was only made to take an external bearing.
I have contacted both Wiggle and Focus to try and find the answer.

If you are talking about a standard 68mm English threaded Campag triple square tapered bb this should do the trick as explained here. It is press fit with loctite with no reliance on lip or circlip.

Thanks again but I cannot see how that is going to press into the screw threads and the Campag BB I brought to use threads in ok anyway.

Just to give a better explanation; I wanted to transfer my Campag gear off of my Bianchi but in my parts box I have had a Hollowtech 11 crank sitting there for years so I thought that it would look better cosmetically and I would get away with using it with the rest being Campag.

To be honest I think now I have slipped up buying the Focus frame with a BB30 as if it had been an ordinary CF frame it might not have been such a problem.I think what I will now do is, and I have already tried it, I will fit the HT 11 and see how the chain line is and take it from there.

What is also intriquing me is the fella I brought the frame off transferred his parts onto TI frame so I can only assume he was using outboard bearings as well.

This frame could now end up on Ebay.
