The Audax UK agm was last weekend. I was going to ride up in a day, but my companion insisted on a civilised two days at 200k per day. So I took the fixed with a 64" gear, two heavy panniers, and off we went. A dog-leg from Reading to Grantham (with a hangover - my companion's hospitality is excellent) and a very pleasant B&B. Then north through the flatlands to Goole, and on to York, on the Friday. It was cold, but we only had one shower, on Thursday morning. I enjoyed what was effectively a two day fixed tour. Must do it again sometime.

That's one of the few events you could ride 400km to get to without anyone trotting out a -you rode all the way? you must be mad- type comment.

I've never knowingly done 200 km in a day, must try it.

It's over-rated. I try to do one every summer holiday, although TBH it gets harder as the years go by.

The one that sticks in the mind is the circuit of Gran Canaria, which is still My Most Favourite Ride in the Whole World Ever.

Sounds like a great ride. There's something very restful about long distances like these. The rhythm and repetition means you get time to give your back brain a power cycle.
