Fitting tight tyres

I have some schwalbe delta cruise puncture protection 700 38c tyres that I am trying to fit on a 27 inch wheel. I’ve put most of it on and there’s about 9 inches hanging over the rim.

I used tyre levers (inflating the tire slightly as well) to do most of it and have tried using as much force as possible to lift it over the rim by standing up and pulling really hard but it won’t shift at all.

I have heard of people heating the tyres but I don’t have access to a hairdryer but I’m willing to try other practical methods.

I have spent too much time and energy trying to put these on and I would be grateful for quick simple solution/s that work(including heating without a hairdryer)

I’d appreciate the help

I dunno if its similar to the problems people have with the tight Schwalbe M+ tyres, but plenty of us spent an hour or more trying before watching this video

Hope thats of some use

That video is rubbish there are so many things wrong with it, look at the damage the strap is doing to a nice allow rim. Valve part last as this allows the tyre to sit in the wheel well.

I don't know about that...I've never got as far as using the straps, but the basic approach shown in that vid has *massively* eased my getting-tyres-back-on since I saw it a year or two ago. (I always put the valve in first, in passing.)

my thoughts too. When you say 27" is it in fact that, or a 700c? Prob a code printed on the rim somewhere will help

Thanks for the reply. I havn't seen anything on the rim, so I will take the tyre off and have a closer look

I wasted an entire Sunday morning going between YouTube instructions and a Scwalbe Marathon Plus tyre I was trying to fit on my ancient Dalesman, until I found out that 700s are too small for my geriatric rims

Bloody glad I didn't force them, but also quite disappointed that Scwalbe don't make marathon plus for ancient rims as the industrial estate I work on is like the aftermath of a nail throwing contest.

I think they are 700c wheels as they are from a 2009 Carrera Crossfire
Without knowing the bike I wasn't sure if it was a much older bike you were working on. That Carrera will definitely have 700c and the tyre should have gone on without trouble, especially as it is a larger profile.

If you squeeze the tyre all the way round so that the bead drops into the middle of the rim it will probably go on easier.
I hope that makes sense - it's easier to do than to describe.:shy:

Well I managed to get both tyres on. I just used a screwdriver to tuck in the bead for the 9 inches that was hanging over the rim. It took 10 seconds for each tyre. I just used low to moderate pressure and it popped on easily.
