Hi All,

Has anyone fitted SKS Chromoplastics to a Cannondale Synapse with disks before? I bought the Chromoplastics as I'd seen mention somewhere of someone fitting them a Synapse. The Synapse has front fork end mounts and rear stay mounts, but I get lost when it comes to the other mounting points. The supplied fixing to the top of the fork (where the brakes would normally be) seems to short to fit through and bolt on and the mounting hole for the top of the rear guard (again where the brakes would normally be) is 90 degrees the wrong way (i.e. facing vertically not horizontally). The mounting for the bottom of the rear guard to the bottom of the frame is also not quite right as a clip is supplied by SKS but it looks like I'll have to drill a hole in the guard to screw it in. One half of the stays are also too long on both the front and the rear.

Can anyone help with the above before I go cutting stays and drilling holes that I may not actually need as I'm being stupid?

Thanks in advance!

I haven't looked at a Synapse, but if you have direct fixing points at the seat and chainstay bridges, then use those. The last set of SKS guards I bought had a hole pre-drilled for fixing to the chainstay bridge - the clip you mention is only there in case your frame doesn't have a thread tapped.

Have fit them to mine. Bit fiddly and I've missed a couple of fixings but they're on.
I went back to LBS I bought the bike from who gave me a bolt to go through top of the fork to attach to.
The top of the rear guard is where I haven't fixed it yet, though think there were a couple of fixing options? Felt like I knew what was required, just haven't done it as I was expecting to need to make holes in the guards.

I put a bend in some of the stays and clipped them off a bit too with some bolt cutters to get them to fit. Don't think I've got any pics of the bike with the guards on and not near the bike today but could take some pics Friday to show you what I did.

Next bike is getting them fit by the shop though...

Wot Wafer said. It's better to use the fixing holes if present and normal to have to cut the stays once the mudguards are in place.

It's a fiddly job but satisfying if you take your time and approach it in the right frame of mind.
