Having snapped two tyre levers, bruised the palm of my hand using the tyre levers and then puncturing two new inner tubes, is there an easier way of putting replacement tyres onto existing rims??

It was equally hard removing the old tyres although as I was replacing the amount of care was slightly less.

The wheels are Campagnolo on a 1980'a ALAN so nothing unusual.

Any short cuts or tricks of the trade greatly appreciated. New inner tubes ordered but awaiting for help before i ruin another set!

What rim tape are you using? Too thick a layer will make fitting a tyre more difficult. You need to push the bead into the centre of the rim as you work it on.

For getting a tyre off I use steel tyre leavers. Snap one of those and you're superman. For getting the tyre back on I use a tyre brace...

What are the tyres you are trying to fit?
I have a very similar ALAN (1981), owned for 40+ years: Campagnolo headset, BB and Nuovo Record FD/RD.
My rims are Weinmann though, laced on Maillard 'Atom' hubs.

I have been using a set of plastic ones for years

the LBS gave me a set of metal ones for some reason but when I tried to use them it scratches the wheels and I was worried that if I put too much pressure on them then I could bend the rim of the wheel

Just make sure you do the valve area last, this will allow the bead to sit in the well of the rim.

Squeeze and press it around the wheel and it will eventually slip over the rim. I do them all the time at work including Marathons and I never use levers. If I am struggling then rubber gloves to grip the tyre and some soap solution on the rim
