are there any problem solver kind of products that allow fitment of newer style recessed calipers to older nut type forks ?

just dont fancy drilling forks

I use Front Option 3 suggested by the late great Sheldon here. It is easy and no drilling is required.

so RecordAceFromNew you still use allen key but only up against the front edge and not complete crown !

has that been ok in service !

Yes. The forks we are talking about are steel. Those crowns are imho much stronger than the caliper's alloy legs. As far as I remember I could insert an allen key into the hole at the back of the crown to tighten the allen "nut".
