Fitting pedals

The postie has just delivered my new pedals and im just about to fit them . As they will be staying on the bike would it be a good idea to grease up the thread before I fit them ? Or just whack them on and go baby yeah

FWIW I've never been particular about the type of grease I have used, just applied what I had and touchwood never had a problem.

I expect butter would work, or a bit of lard or dripping.
