Finally got round to biting the bullet with Clipless pedals..got some Shimano A530 SPD in black.
question is..I know you are meant to use copper grease on the threads when fitting.
This is not a product I have to hand..is Vaseline petroleum jelly ok as a good alternative for the time being..if it's smeared on and in the threads?

I would say yes. Or grease.

Really, as you own a bike wouldn't be a good idea to get some grease?
You will find many highly experienced mechanics will use any good quality grease not copper slip,
Vaseline will wash off quickly and if ignored could be a problem in the future.
