I have had a set of clipless pedals for a wee while sitting in the garage and decided I was feeling brave tonight and was going to fit them.

Got the first pedal changed over ok and decided to fit the cleats (or whatever they are called) to my shoes and try it before changing over the other one. This is where I run into problems.. The shoes are Shimano ones that I bought second hand on ebay a while ago and I am either being very blond or there is something missing.

This shows all the bits that came with the pedals (excluding the one pedal on the bike). From looking at the instructions the bits I have got all go on the outside of the shoe and should screw into something inside the shoe, it is the bit inside I am either missing or missing out on something

This shows the inside and outside of the shoes.

Am I being silly or is there something missing from the shoes, if so can I buy this bit separately or am I as well to head to Lidi for a new pair of there shoes??

ill just look but it does look a bit odd (think ive got the same shoes)

ok something is missing, where you have 2 long cutouts there's a piece of (possibly) hardboard and underneath a metal plate with 4 bolt holes to take the cleats.

oh and youre possibly missing the insoles

maybe all is not lost if someone has an old pair they're about to throw away they could send you the missing bits.

Thanks for the links SB, and you are right it looks like I am missing the insert bits from the shoes. Just typical

They seem to be about £8 for a set of two... plus waiting for the delivery time. I think I will take a wander to Lidi tomorrow and see what they have in stock and if I can not get a new pair of shoes from them I will order a set of the plates.

I can't believe someone would sell another cyclist a pair of shoes with the insoles and cleat plate missing . How mean is that

looks like a comfy pair of shoes anyway. You could probably use the insoles from an old pair of trainers. Might need a bit of a trim with a pair of scissors though.

why don't you try your local cycle shop for the plates. They are bound to have an old pair of shoes they can rob them from
