Fitting a bottom bracket

Hi All,

I've a frame sitting in my garage that I'm starting to buildup into a bike.

I've acquired a brand new bottom bracket with nylon cups.

I've never fitted a bottom bracket before - other than ensuring all the threads are clean on the frame, presumably I don't need to need to do anything else before fitting ? - Do I need/should I put anything on the nylon threads ?

To clarify, The cups don't carry ball bearings on plastic. They're merely threaded holder rings for a metal shell which contains sealed bearings. The greasing I refer to, is between the plastic thread of this holder ring and the bottom bracket shell which is part of the frame.

Ta. for any advice about fitting.

Cheers for the replies fellas !

I have, however, an associated query . . . . . . .

The lockring has 'cutouts' which are 'curved', should I/could I use a traditional lockring spanner ? Other lockrings that I've seen, have rectangular 'cutouts' and most lockring spanners that I've seen, have rectangular 'notches' to fit into these 'cutouts'.

But on the bottom bracket that I intend to use, the cutouts on the outer edge of the lockring are curved - almost semicircles. Do I need a special tool to tighten them ? (I think that a 'standard' lockring spanner would slip - not being a good fit).

Can anyone give me a link to an appropriate tool that I could use ?

Thank you very much !
