Are there any exercises that aid biking that i can do whilst at my desk at work.

Seem to spend all week at my desk and would like to think i am helping my fitness whilst i work.

Apart from rigging your PC monitor power to function from crank revolutions under the desk then not many I'm guessing. Do you commute to work?

Proper recovery from your efforts is a big part of gaining fitness. You are not going to be doing a lot of recovering while you are actually riding unless you take it really easy and it would be a bit perverse to be recovering on the bike and then trying to get fit while off it! ;)

I'd suggest fast commuting by bike if at all possible and resting your legs during the working day.

Extend your commute one/both ways by taking a different route, then spend your time at work resting your body and feeling pleased with yourself.

It worked for me.

As far as I am concerned there are no short cuts or quick routes to fitness just as there are none to safe weight loss. Keep exercising and increasing your distance and/or speed and your fitness will improve.

I think the only exception to this is if you was fit and in shape at some point and you've not let it go tooooooo much, it's alot easier to regain, than if you'd never had it.

Reffered to as "Muscle Memory" I do believe.

IE I used to body build and was pretty darn big for my height, then suffered depression and couldn't be arsed, lost alot of it but stayed fairly healthy, not I am back on the fittness lark and the muscle mass is stacking back on alot faster than when I first started it years ago from scratch.
