Don't push so hard. The beauty of cycling is that you can take it very easy. When starting out, time on the bike is the important thing, starting with 20 minutes or so and building up. So you need to go nice and slow and build up steadily. Stay within yourself, get out regularly on flat routes for now and you'll soon see a difference.

So easy to be sanctimonious and say quit the smokes, but so hard to do. Just get on your bike and ride. Don't worry about speed or distance, it will come. When you are at the top of a hill coughing your lungs up you will then have the incentive to think more about quitting the fags. There is a lot of help available now to help people quit. Have a chat with your doctor.

It is not easy, but, if you can quit then it does help.

The "hill" i used to walk up, i now dont think about and cycle up it.

Lots of rides, and no smokes.

Garmin and Strava

Good for you I hope it works but please don't think I am saying it was easy because it is most certainly not, I smoked for around 40 years ok bloody stupid I know (been told before that I am a slow learner lol) but I noticed a differnece after a month now it's like being turbo charged the hills that i found hard now I just go up them and laugh at how long and slow I used to be,so again don't give up giving up your bike will love you for it LOL.
