I headed out to the local Lidl with my (bargain @ £1.50 in the clearance) panniers. What with the bags, gloves, helmet and shorts I was a walking advert for the Crivit Lidl sports brand.

Getting there with empty bags - easy. Riding home loaded with shopping - not so easy. Need a different rack (Aldi will sort that) but apart from that it went well. Happy to have finally used the and will do more shopping with them now :-)

The main secret when shopping by bicycle is...... remembering you are shopping by bicycle! I have in the past cycled home with a "car bootfull" bulging out of my panniers or tied on to them!

Yes I had to keep reminding myself of that and my strict shopping list.

My elderly Mother in Law does that....

She is well meant, but we cycle in to town and meet her while she catches the bus. She will then buy things that are bargains, but that she cannot carry and we end up taking them home.

I have carried pictures, storage bins and even a full size hoover!
