Went to my local bike club Saturday morning cafe run and thoroughly enjoyed it sat at the back at first to see what the crack was hand signals etc, then moved up at different spells. Great banter and a pleasant day out at a steady pace. Two groups then split later to do shorter or longer routes.

Ended up doing 40 miles
Good to be in a group any concerns gone.

How did you find drafting etc in a group? I still haven't really had any opportunity to try this. The closestI've got to a group ride is riding with the wife, or a couple of work colleagues commuting home, all of whom are significantly slower. Does it make as much difference as people say?

I had that revalation when i started club cycling.

Has led to me setting up my own club which is hard work but fun

Well I'm not sure I would have averaged 20mph for 15 miles on the A38 into a massive heading by myself today without my 4 amigos on the way back from the cafe today. Once you are confident drafting properly you will feel like you are barely doing anything when behind the bike in front.

When at the front though, god trying to keep 20mph going was tough going! Not too bad for 1km though. Then tuck in at the back of the group.

Time did seem to pass effortlessy although the pace was if anything a wee bit slow to begin (according to other riders). Im sure it does make a difference.

Well from my short experience, very friendly. My local club appears to have runs to suit all abilities. The good thing is you meet others who say might work shifts like myself and you have more cycle buddies to team up with outwith club times too.
