Hi,

First post, read copious amounts on here regarding first bikes and such, looking for a few pointers before I walk into a shop for test rides.

I have a £700 Ctw voucher to spend, looking for a road bike at around £600.

I'm 5'7'', 12 stone, quite broad, and Im looking for any advice on whether certain brands are better for shorter folk, if only to narrow how many brands I'm looking at. I have to buy from Evans (or Halfords) if that matters, so I'm sure I'll get some good advice in store but would like to have some idea before walking in.

Also, if anyone knows a specific branch of Evans in town, or better still, a sales guy that knows his stuff, I'm all ears.

Thanks,

Lee

Most brands at evans are well respected, i would say all bikes are good enough quality and it's just up to you to decide what you want.

The boardmans are very nice and in your price point.

If you have less to spend the carrera`s are cracking bikes for the price.

Both brands have won bike tests in cycling plus mag for the equipment and handling for the price they make them for .

Only thing to be aware of with halfords is the staff ,depending on the store can be good or fairly meh .I am lucky with my local one as they guys they have do seem to know what they are doing and gave me some free stem risers as i got a shorter stem from them for a £10
