Finally got out on my new caad8 today. Found out how unfit I am. I done a test run to my work 7miles one way. There was a few hills which although they don't look too bad my legs wouldn't agree. I found it quite windy which didn't make things easy. I managed to cover the 7 miles in 30mins which is exactly what I had calculated, Avg of 14mph is not too bad everything considered. Hopefully my fitness will improve and I can get my Avg speed up.

Well done Moby, speed will come, don't rush it (to pardon the pun). I don't know about over on the West Coast but it was quite windy over here today. Also was that 7:30 including stops for lights, etc., then your actual average cycling speed will be greater :-)

I am very lucky, the route I chose has no lights at all. One busy roundabout though. Felt I got a good workout much better/harder than the bikes in the gym

Done another 10 miles today I bought the double, its a 54 frame size. The bike is nice and light , and seems pretty fast. I am not happy with the riding position but I am going to raise the saddle, I hope the bike is not too small for me. I was thinking about getting the 56 frame but I was advised by the guy on the shop to try the 54. There is only 2cm difference so I didn't think this would make much difference.
I have also noticed that my hands were quite sore, I am wearing gloves. Got to play around with the set up of the bike.
