First ride with Aero-bars!

Went out today - perfect conditions for honing my aero position - 18mph headwind!

The bars are deda parabolica 'due' , clipped to my Allez, and the difference was amazing!

Getting comfy was very easy, with perhaps the only possible addition I might want being a ffwd seatpost so that my saddle doesnt have to be jammed right forward!

I was thrilled to see my speed (into the wind) creep up from about 15 to about 18-19 as I dropped into position.

On the way home I cruised along quite serenely at 33 or so :hyper:

Would definitely recommend for anyone who wants to go fast without going all out on a TT bike.

Cant wait to see those extra mph pushing me up my local results table!

Hi simon,

I kind of half tempted to get some clip on aero bars. I had my stem lowered a few days ago and it deff feel a bit faster on my commutes. Not majorly but can feel slight increase in speed. ( could all be in the mind though )

Just woundering how much strain aero bars put on your lower back, and do you loose much control when steering? Might see if I can find some second hand ones to try out first to seee if i like it.

Cheers

I find them very comfy because you sort of relax your weight onto the elbows, rather than using your back to hold you up.

Steering control is compromised slightly, but its very easy to hop back up onto the hoods for tight sections.

Would definitely avoid being on the aero bars in traffic, but for the open road, theyre brilliant!

Good to see you've got some now. Yes, aero bars in traffic are a recipe for disaster. Even during time trials they can be a bit of a handful when paired with a deep front and there are trucks are passing at 55...

I'm glad to read this as I'm taking my Deda Parabolica Uno's out for a spin tomorrow. Not sure how much difference it'll really make but this thread is heartening. I'm just nervous about steering/emergency braking. We'll see...
