Morning all. I am a first time poster here, so please be gentle!
After being inspired by Bradley Wiggins in Le Tour and everything Olympics this summer, I have decided to give road cycling a shot!
As I didnt want to spend a huge amount on something I wasnt sure about, I went for the Raleigh Race bike http://www.jjbsports.com/raleigh-race-road-bike/road-bikes/shop/fcp-product/33160

Picked the bike up on Friday evening, and yesterday after putting on my cycle shirt and shorts went on a gentle jaunt around the 'countryside'. 10miles in all, thought it was gonna kill me, but to my suprise, I reckon I could have kept going for a fair bit longer.

I have most definately been bit by the cycling bug, and cant wait to go back out on the road this evening!

Nice one-while it may have a few cheesy parts and need fettling at first (make sure you're happy with the brakes and tyres?-an easy fix)..........that actually looks a pretty nicely finished bike for the dosh!!..........the tricky bit is keeping it up now!

I'm at the same sort of stage as you I reckon, just starting out on the road and trying to do regular 5, 10 and 15 mile rides to build up a bit of strength and confidence and I'm lovin it...........just hope the motivation stays through the winter.......although I might return to my MTB when things start to get a bit more slippy and grotty on the lanes.

I went for the ubiquitous Triban 3 (a hundred smackers more than yours!) and am pretty impressed with it so far. Hope yours goes the distance too?

All Best

Thanks guys. I'm turning 40 in December and have recently quit playing football, due to no longer really enjoying it, and wanted something to keep me fit, so decided on cycling. As for the bike, it is a bit of a looker, apart from where the brakes leave black marks on the white rims. Started riding to work now, which is just over 3 miles each way. I really think I'm gonna get addicted to this!

Get your rocks off
One year since I returned to cycling and apart from the bike I have bought:

two bottle cages ang bottles
two pumps, track and standard
four lights, two front and two rear
undersaddle bag
four spare inner tubes
three cycling tops
one baggy shorts
three lycra shorts
four pairs cycling socks
two pairs of fingerless gloves, the first pair were cheap rubbish
attachment to fix my Iphone to my stem to use the strava app
cycle computer, waste of money, cheap rubbish
set of allan keys
puncture repair kit

Expensive and as Pat says addictive.

Well done...Bike looks very nice, especially for the price! Hope it gives you many miles of enjoyment

Well so far I have the bottle & cage, helmet, lights , jersey and padded shorts (which are a godsend!) and gloves. Will add a few more bits this week. Terrible weather this evening stopped me going out, so watching tour of Britain on Itv4

With the temperatures here hovering around 28 to 30 degrees moggym, I decided the bottle cage is at the top of my list yesterday, I took beautiful pics of the sunset the other night which I wouldn't have seen if I hadn't gone out for a ride. Hope the TV prog. Is good.

First of all :welcome: to CC and well done on doing 10 miles on your first ride out:bravo:

Like you I nave being inspired by Wiggo et al through our summer of sport and recently (14 days ago) got myself a road bike^_^

Not managed to go as far as you yet, up to 5 miles so far, but in my defence the roads around my house in all directions are like something out of the KOM:ohmy: ...its not called Bolton (Bowl Town) for nothing, plus I'm very unfit:sad:.

Planning to attempt a 10 miler at the weekend:ohmy:... I'm off out in a while to do 5/6 miles then will be doing 6/7 miles on Thursday if I'm able.

I have most definately been bit by the cycling bug, and cant wait to go back out on the road this evening!
