well ive done it lol bought myself a new ribble and decided to get out and about ,,first ride tonight 17 mile to rivington barn and back i felt like giving up a few times but stuck at it and did ok ,,not sure if the bike is set up right for me ,saddle position ,seat height ,etc ,but i can address that at a later date ,with a bike fit ,im 48 i packed the fags in 18 mth ago after 20 year ,and am still about a stone overweight [fat midriff] but was pleased with ride and wasnt gasping like i do when i try and run ,, ill stick at it and hope to do a tri in 12 month ,,,,just a goal to aim for ,,,

Well done for packing in the fags

Well done for the ride.

Stick with it, trust me in 6 months you will be so much better you will not believe it.

cheers 18 mth ago i couldnt walk up an hill without stoping to catch my breath ,,i jacked the smokes in and we bought two bedlington terriers ,we get out every day with em ,weekends are a lot longer walks ,last weekend we climbed pen y ghant in the peak district with the dogs ,,got the bike too get fitter a bit quicker but im happy with my progress ,so no rush ..just need some decent padded shorts now lol

I'm younger and (probably) fitter than you are, but like you I very recently got back into cycling after 10+ years out of the saddle.

Well done you! especially for giving up the cigarettes.

I imagine your backside will be sore for a day or two after this first ride back, but it gets better. For me the aching was much reduced for the second ride, and gone for the third and subsequent rides. I may be lucky and have a magic saddle but I doubt it. You#ll be surprised how quickly you get used to it.

cheers all btw i wasnt bragging or showing off far from it , just trying say to any one contemplating taking up the two wheels again that if i can do it anyone can
