After a dose of manflu followed by the freeze then the fog I finally got out on the road despite still having a lingering chesty cough.

Only did a gentle 13 miles but was surprised at how well it went.Didnt cough at all on the bike then had a violent coughing fit when I got off outside the house.

Got to get some miles in the Snowdrop Express is only about 6 weeks away

Well done Banjo. Similarly, I went out today for the first time since 2nd December. A rib injury, bad weather, christmas, work; all conspired against me.

It was all the more frustrating after fitting new Tiagra shifters and associated parts (bottom bracket, front and rear derailleurs, chainset, chain and cassette) about 3 weeks ago and not getting to play with them!

22 miles done today. I had forgotten just how much I miss getting out on the bike. Hoping to do something similar tomorrow! Changed days; in my youth I would have happily spent the New Year break in party mode. Cannot be bothered with it now .

Congrats on getting over the flue and getting back out aswell

I live in Hartlepool and i was beginning to wonder if ever was going to get out at all this winter

Most of my training is in the GYM on the spinning bikes at £25 per month unlimted

But the snow as melted so a ride this Sunday is looking good

Been a few weeks for me too, with the weather and running christmas errends for family and so on...also a few time being above the limit!

I had managed to keep giong to the gym at least 3 times a week to try to hold on to some fitness, I would hate to think how I would have been if I had just stagnated, but the bike soon reminded me that there is no gym equipment thats as good as a bike!

First ride for about 3 weeks or so last night, with a couple pals running out to and over our summer club training course. Running 16 to 17 mph (we'd be doing 21 to 22s in the summer) on an atmospheric, slightly foggy, warm and fairly car-free route. Felt great to be out on 2 wheels again and feel the blood pumping and legs hurting once more.
Only 20 miles or so, but feel better for it this morning.
I love cycling, roll-on better weather and longer days.

I went down with something horrid on 4th December, and have been languishing ever since. I have stockpiled some nice new parts for the mtb since early in the month, so when my partner left for work last night I snuck the bike into the warmth of the kitchen. I fitted a new Sram Red cassette, new Sram hollow-pin chain, new XTR rear mechanism, and a lovely secondhand XTR shifter. This morning I checked it all over and indexed the gears properly. I then rode into town to do some bill paying and shopping. It really was great to be on the bike again, and I was chuffed that I wanted to ride. It was a real joy to shift seamlessly up & down the gears - what a joy a decent transmission is when it's well set up.

It was only a short spin, but I had no problems with the chest, and I am looking forward to tomorrow. There seems to loads of us in exactly the same boat with illness, & bad weather - good luck to you all and best wishes to those who haven't felt well enough to get astride a bike yet.

Happy New Year.

Did my first ride for over a month today, work, family and the snow have got in the way.

It was trying to rain when started out and whilst I was tempted to wimp out I went for it and enjoyed every minute of the 15 miles covered.

My target is to try and average 10 miles a day, not easy in the cold and dark of a winters evening after a long days work.

For me today was the fourth day in a row I have been on the bike, making a total of 50 miles, 27 of which count towards my 2011 target.
Today was about 15 miles roundtrip, from High Wycombe, via Briants Bottom (!) taking me to the top of the Chilterns, a climb of about 70 metres, past the windmill at Lacey Green and then downhill towards Saunderton and West Wycombe.
A new route for me, only been doing parts. Was very pleased with my hill climbing performance, slow but steady, no very steep bits but requires some stamina. Certainly no getting off the bike this time.
Also was very pleased, when having a rest at the top of the hill a couple of chaps on their roadbikes passed at breakneck speed, but one was still enquiring whether I was ok. Nice touch!
Anyway, a positive start to 2011 for me and I look forward to meeting my target, and perhaps even exceediong it.

First ride for me today since the end of November! It's still slightly icy in places so I couldn't relax much. It's a start though.
