Hi all,

ive been reading the forum for the past couple of months now, im looking for some advice.
I’ve been cycling for about 2 months, I’m currently riding a ridgeback hybrid to work and back 6.5 miles a day. It’s a pretty hilly journey and im finding the hybrid too heavy and slow, I’ve lost about a stone since I started and im about 11.5 stone & 5 foot 10”. I was going to get my Dads classic Joe Waugh racer but Edinburgh Cycles wouldn’t service it so basically im going to buy a new racer. I’m looking to commute everyday on it and possibly get involved with a cycling club, my budget is anything up to 500 quid. Can you guys help me out with some recommendations? Is it worth getting one of the Boardman bikes from Halfords?

Any help is appreciated as im a total newbie!

Thanks

james

It that Joe Waugh the correct size for you?

Take it to Newcastle. They'll service it for you.

Just in passing, I posted a very similar thing a little while ago, and one of the replies to that thread pointed out that I couldn't fit a rack or mudguards to the bike I was looking at. Good advice to check if you're looking for a commuter bike.

So you didn't get that Trek 1.5 in the end then Nigel?

Back OnTopic... Checkout Ribble bike builder. I have heard plenty of good feedback regarding the Boardman too!

Welcome and Good Luck with your search xx(

Haha. Effing C2W scheme! I'm STILL waiting for the vouchers.

I was told they were on their way which was why I made that thread, and I've just been promised three weeks from now for about the third time. By the time I actually get the thing it will have been nearly 4 months waiting. 2010 model will most likely be available by then. Only thing that's keeping my spirits up is the thought that by the time they arrive they'll be discounting the price of bikes because the season is coming to an end xx(
