Well, I was having a lovely ride out with some mates this evening and then it all went a bit Pete Tong!!!

Firstly, whilst riding a cycle path along a local A road, I followed it through angled kerbstones of a bus stop - because that's exactly how it's laid out. Over the first kerb - all fine - looks like they've brought the road surface up to the top of the kerbstones. And, indeed they had - on this one. On the other side, it was a different story - the angled kerbstone protruding a good 3 inches. With the sun in my eyes, I didn't see it until the last minute, when the bars of my TDF were wrenched from my hand and there was a torturous sound as wheel and (brand new this afternoon) Continental tyre scraped along it.

Somehow, I managed to keep it together - but it spooked me. Anyhow, put it behind me and got on with the ride.

Followed a route down onto our local seafront - and something felt weird with the bike. Stopped, looked it over, nothing untoward. Two miles later, it's a different story - strange vibration and then the back slewed to one side. Oh, we know what's happened there then!!

Brief stop and patch applied - all good; head for home. One mile later - oh, dear, here we go again!!!

Luckily, I was just a couple of miles from a Halfrauds - so I pushed it there and took advantage of a free puncture repair courtesy of the care plan I purchased with the bike.

At least the ride home gave me a chance to prove the worth of my new Cateye lights - they are great!!

Well, at least I've popped my p******e cherry - so to speak. Even if I did pop a brand new Continental tube in the process.

Still enjoyed my ride though.
