well it had to happen sooner or later, yesterday on my way to work I had my first off.

Was just coming off of the cycle path and onto the road, when around the corner I see some chappie on a BSO cycling down the wrong side of the road!!! I really scrub off my pace and get down to about 12 or 13 mph and get completely over to the left so as to avoid hitting in to him, yet completely illogically he follows me over to the side seemingly oblivious to the impending head on collision and he is still peddaling. I hit the brakes hard and take the biggest evasive manoeuvres I can but there is no space left for me to go and we clip front wheels as we are passing. I go up and over the bars, smashing my shoulder into a tree and getting some road rash on my hands and forearms.

While he just gets up and shouts at me 'you ride too fast'. Now I would consider myself quite a defensive rider, I dont follow people too closely, always give plenty of room when passing and very rarely filter in traffic ( I dont commute in rush hour so there is never much point). I cant really see how I could have avoided this collision.

Bike is OK, my right hand side hood and shifter have moved to the left by a few degrees but still brakes and shifts absolutely fine, it still feels pretty solidly attached to the bars and is now actually in a more comfortable position so may not bother trying to put it back.

I have come off a little worse, didnt feel too bad yesterday and managed to finish off my ride and go into work (im a chef so its pretty physical) but as the adrenaline has worn off and now I have had a nights sleep on it my shoulder is killing me and hurts when I try and rotate it, wrist is also very sore, luckily today is my day off so have been able to rest and ice the affected areas and I will be back in work tomorrow, but its not what I wanted to do on my day off.
