First Night Ride

This was my first night ride in years on the road bike. First, I decided to dust off the road bike which has been hanging in the bike cave for a month. I spend most of my time riding the trail bikes as the winter temps start to move in. I took the road bike into work and rode out of the shop. There is a rail trail a few miles away so that's where I headed for most of the ride. Always great getting back on the road and the night riding went well.

Used to love night riding but since my accident, I'm now too scared to do it, more's the pity. Potholes filled with water and pitch black country lanes don't mix very well.

When you have good lights you can trust, night riding can be some of the best, particularly in dark country lanes.

I did quite a few of the Fnrttc rides, Southend, Felpham, Whitstable and Brighton were my favourite ones. There is something quite special about riding through the night.

I love a good night ride although don't think I'd ever do it on my road bike. Always either the hybrid, fat bike or tandem which all soak up the many obstacles of night riding much better for me.

I do agree that night riding is great, with that caveat!
Have done the popular "Ride to the Sun" overnight 100 mile ride, held on the Saturday night closest to the summer equinox. Carlisle to Edinburgh. If I ever regain the required level of fitness I would love to do it again.

This is why I don’t ride through floods at night. Even during the day I’m cautious as there maybe debris or pot holes you’ll hit

This little town has some nice roads, but this isn't normal.
