Just start running out the distance of your rides, a little bit by a little bit, and soon enough you'll be there,@The_Cycling_Scientist . I don't seem to recall being particularly fit when I did my first Metric Centuries, but I was with friends and relatives, and we talked most of the way.

I know what you mean, I need to work out some local friends who like a little cycling challenge when I'm not working, I've already mastered getting to work in around 17mins when it used to take 35mins to cycle on my old MTB

I agree with you there, that's all I have done tbh.
I started cycling but I didn't think it would ever take me anywhere

Yes very well done on the fabulous effort.
Cracked mine earlier this year. Wasn't planned and was one my last legs near the finish but still felt good achieving it.
Never been close to repeating it since due to family and holiday commitments and a bit of laziness to be honest but still holding out the hope to crack the imperial 100 over the coming months.Feel like I'm going backwards at times.
