I have a nice mixed ride, dropping out of the hills in NE Wales down to the Dee estuary, on to Chester and home to Wrexham. Its around 46miles and takes me around 4hrs plus a lunch stop.

Well Yesterday in the pouring rain I got a bliddy P*****re, no hassle I thought, opened the saddle bag in the shelter of a oak tree and set to work on the wheel.
All sorted and went to pump the tyre up but the mini bike pump was next to useless . Tried rearranging the gubbings like the instructions said, it just blew out when ever the tyre was semi inflated.

I was about 10 miles from home shortest route, so rang Mrs B....no answer....walked to a garage I knew down the road and he didn't have a presta valve connection, to be fair though he did look everywhere for me.

Fiddled and fiddled finally getting enough inflation for a bumpy downhill ride to Connah's quay and the welcoming help from a stranger with a presta valve pump, they even let me take the pump with me and I'll drop it back tomorrow

Think I'll get a Topeak mini pump from Halfords

Yeah definitely invest in a Topeak Road Morph for situations like this. No more limping home on half the recommended pressure as I have managed to get to 120psi on my road bike with ease. It is a little larger than most other hand pumps but I think it is worth the bulk.

+1 For CO2. Not environmentally sound, due to manufacturing energy, but for the odd time you'll need it worth carrying. Forget struggling to get to pressure just blast it there in seconds. Remember to carry spare cartridges for event number 2 on a ride and to let the tyre down and refill with a track pump once you get home. CO2 fair walks through rubber over 24hrs compared to air.

Spot on I should just pop in to the LBS.

Now I have 16g c02 bulbs for beer kegs, wonder if the fittings could be made compatible for a presta valve.

Many thanks off for a google
