Ohhh what a feeling that was tonight when I synced Strava to find out I had a KOM.
Its only a short section but still im 1st of 264.

That's all really my second ride on my first road bike after around 6 weeks of no cycling.

Also planning on my highest climb to date for Friday

The buzz is back.

Well done! It probably won't last long, you have now made yourself a target!

I'm on Strava but finding it a wee bit pointless, I'm nowhere near the top of any of the stages and some of the KOM's seem so ridiculous (117mph, on a bike - really???), but I keep uploading to it anyway...

I just use Strava as a tool that logs where I've been and to see what the average speed is.
And as a matter of fact, my average went up yesterday over a 19 mile stretch from 12 to 12.77 mph. An improvement ..... not by much, but still an improvement

You just wait till you get the "Uh Ooo, somebody's just taken you KOM" email. You'll start planning when's best to retake the section, and start to harbour intense feelings of hatred towards someone you don't even know. You'll start planning to take all of their KOM's even if it means asking your fastest friends to help as your lead out on the section.
Apart from that well done!

I always look at my averages, its a better guide to the whole ride not just one part of it..
So a good bit of improvement I would say.

Nice work!
Even if I know I can't beat the KOM on a section I still like strava for showing me how I have done against my own previous attempts- that gives me enough of a target! (for now, until I have to start defending my 4 KOM's I have dotted around)

Well I went from being 322 out of 350 on a section, to yesterday 165 out of 350, and I was chuffed with that. Each has different ideas of success!

Nice !
Much as its nice to get a KOM as long as your bettering yourself then your winning .
On my commute i recently changed routes and found a new hill that i am nowhere near the top ranking but i bet the winners are not doing the rides after another 8 miles into a killer headwind with no one to draft on a bike with about 6-8 kg of stuff in panniers .
I do have 1 kom set with a monster tailwind that no one has touched yet ^_^.

Well done on you 1st KOM. I mainly use strava to log the miles I have done. But if I know I am close to the top time, then I will give it a go,
And a little tip, if your trying for a KOM, wait for a tail wind. ;)
