Whilst it may not be much to some of you guys, it is to me...........I have just completed my first 40+ km ride (43.5km = 27.4 miles).
I have been trying to do this for a few weeks but have only found routes that got me o 38 kms (and I refuse to ride around the block twice).
This was mainly off road on a variety of surfaces hard packed mud, mud, compacted and loose gravel.
My ride is a Rockrider 6.2 from Decathlon with off road tyres and full suspension (I can assure you, that is needed on a lot of the surfaces)
Only one incline I had to dismount, it was a killer. No momentum as I had crossed a ford, and the surface of the incline was so loose I was wheel spinning, so had no option but to get off and push.
It took me 2 hr 27 mins (of riding, plus a few drink stops and to take in the scenery)
Don't know if it matters but I'm 62 and just over 14 st (from 16.5 st), still another stone to lose.
Might give some inspiration to some younger members to not leave it too late, like I almost did. Get fit and keep fit, and you can enjoy life even more........................I do.
18 months ago I was out of breath after walking 50 mtrs, with high blood pressure and an enlarged heart caused by the high BP. I was told by my cardiologist that the damage could be reversed, and to lose weight and excersise and if I did that, after about a year, the damage be reversed.
So that's what I've done, at my last visit (Oct last year, appointment due next month) my cardiologist gave me the all clear, in fact after the ECG he said I trace of a sportsman.
I only started cycling again last August, but for the previous year got my excersise through walking so this was a good warm up for some more strenuous activities to come.
My life is better now because I can do so much more.
