Not been out for a ride on my bike for years.
Never had the motivation, get home from work and I just want to settle down put my feet up. Problem is I've put on weight and I'm 20 stone and unfit. I have a hybrid a Scott P3 a nice bike so took the plunge and seeing that the sun was out went out for a ride and managed five miles today. Didn't push it took it steady a found I really enjoyed it. I just now need to keep it up which is the hard part for me. I either keep it up and get fit or end up in an early grave.
Sorry for deleting my post earlier, just think it wasn't worth sharing.

Well done, keep it up, you'll be amazed how quickly you get back into the zone:okay:.

Of course this is worth sharing, it's what CycleChat in general, and Beginners in particular, is for. Five miles is a good distance for a first ride, well done. This time of year it's not easy to get out for a ride after work, but weekends only is a good start.

Just to reinforce Newtie's point, there are vast numbers of the population who could barely cycle 500yds, let alone five miles.

And five miles is long enough to enable you to 'get somewhere' - to the next village, to the centre of town, to a supermarket, to see a mate, etc etc.

Well done, keep it going but keep having fun .
Mix it up a bit to keep the interest, different routes, a wee picnic halfway (in better weather :sun:)
Well worth sharing.

As mentioned above, five miles is pretty good. It's a difficult time of year to make a start and especially this winter with so many storms rolling across, so well done getting out.

If you get some enjoyable rides in now it will seem even better as we get into spring. Keep up the good work.^_^

5 miles is great,my first time back in the saddle for years last year was 3 miles, which nearly finished me off!

I recently did the Bristol to Bath cycle path and back again (around 30 miles all together) and could've happily done it again! And I'm an overweight 51yr old! If I can do it,anyone can! Be warned,it's addictive! But great fun!
