Well ive broke my "crash duck" on this fine morning!
Giving it abit too much welly down some winding country lanes and hit some gravel, bike slid and i made the mistake of try to break.
Hit the grass verge and over the bars into a big old farmers gate!!
Grazed forehead, road rash shoulder and broken coller bone!!! :banghead:
Thankfully the bike seems to have come out of it not too bad.
Had to free wheel/pedal one armed to the hospital which was about 3 miles away as i didnt have my phone on me!!
Looks like possible six weeks off work, not great seen as though ive only been back to work for a couple of months after a 10 week lay off with ankle ligament reconstruction!!
Worst of all im not able to ride in the beautiful weather
Anyone else had broken coller bone and how long was it before you were able to ride?

"First crash" - how many more are you planning to have? ^_^

Gravel's 'orrible - got to really watch out for that. Best wishes for the recuperation, and hope you're back on the bike sooner rather than later.

Get well soon! Not collar bone but fractured a wrist which put me off the bike for a week or so after the cast was off. Most say 6 weeks but try just a turbo or exercise bike to help keep your fitness up.

I broke my collarbone as a teenager, and what I remember was that it was horribly sore!

In those days they strapped it up with a figure of eight bandage. Between the collarbone and a big lump of bandage between my shoulderblades it was almost impossible to find a position to sleep in. Anyway get well - look after it and I'm sure you'll soon be back.

hmmm i wonder if you'd be able to ride sooner on a bike that doesn't put pressure on your upper body so much?
I used to ride bikes that only used your muscles from the waist downwards. It might still not be advisable tho, worth checking that out with someone who has medical know how.

I've been unable to ride for close on 7 weeks now, got a fractured knee. It's all stiff and weak so I dunno how much longer that's gonna take...so, solidarity on the incapacitated front, hope you heal up fast!

I broke my collarbone 6 weeks yesterday in a crash (and opposite arm at the same time), still not able to put full weight on it/ ride- depends how badly it's broken, the two ends had seperated quite a lot on mine so advised not to try to speed it up else they'd have to break it again and plate it.
Good luck with the recovery- try not to think about the weather (I surf as well and had the delight in knowing it's been the flattest 6 weeks on record- get in!)

I broke my collarbone as a teenager, I was playing the drums again approaching 3 weeks afterwards, however, can't remember how long it was until I put weight on it. I hope it mends soon.

Depends what work you do. I went back after 3 weeks and it was a week too early, but fine the following week. I do have to able to use the arm that got hit, but not with any great range of movement. It was the range of movement in the shoulder that took longest to get better but using it in normal daily life was much more effective than sitting around and just doing "physio".
