First time out with my local club. Started with the social route which is a steady speed, stick as a group. 2 people got punctures which delayed us but a nice cafe stop at bosworfh battlefield, altjogh the hill upto it is a bit steep lol. A very nice club to ride with and met some good people.

They advertise to be the friendliest club in Leicester and definantly showed it today. Was also my longest distance rode, being 33mile route.

They also do an earlier Sunday ride at an average of 14mph which I may do next week to get my first 50mile ride in. Roll on next Sunday!

Nice, sounds like you had fun.

Went on my first "B" rated ride with Gloucester CC today, I'd previously done the social AA/A rides. 56 miles at an average speed of around 17-18mph (depending on which riders Strava you look at!). I was knackered by the end of it, but it was a good ride.

Thanks both.

I was talking to a few on today's rides that have done the faster Saturday rides but struggled slightly. So was galling and planning to do the Saturday rides together so least we can keep grouped together at the back. And least keep each other company. We all seemed to say we had similar sort of average speeds just below the main groups 18mph etc

Sounds a good ride !
Wimped out today, felt like death after coming off night shift .
My local club ( in the sig ) has 3 rides on a sunday averaging 14-16, 17-19 and 21+ mph along with 2 rides in the week .When i get chance i go with the middle group and its ok for me as i do not get chance to train properly atm.
tried the faster group a few times last year and they are doing about 25 on the flat and not much slower on inclines ..... pheeeeeeeewwwww:heat:

Leicester forest cycling club. The do Tuesday night runs, Thursday night tt's through middle of yer I believe. They're currently doing Thursday night training at mallory park circuit. 8.30am and 9am runs on Saturday then a 8.20am Sunday and 10am Sunday social ride. Plus other events through the year.

Check out the Facebook group or search for the site. You do have to wait to be accepted when registering to the site but can browse forums.

Nice one Reece, looks like you had fun!

I'd love to join a club but my local one doesn't have beginner/introduction type runs, just a slower group. But they still do 50-70 miles.

Even being a slower run I could imagine 50-70miles being a bit daunting for a first club run!

Well done on the club run. You have made the break into the big league:wahhey:.
I was really very worried about approaching a club to ride with them, but it sounds like you had a good experience.
I still think I need more training coz my hill climb speed isn't that good and I don't want to be the one slowing everyone down

Don't worry about your climbing ability, people all have different strength's and weaknesses and on a club run you will find some of those that blaze along on the flat go out the back on all the hills, and some of those more "steady" rider's fly up the hills. Club's tend to go every man for himself up hills anyway since everyone rides them differently and is of different abilities, re-group at the top.

I'd try find a club like mine. The Sunday social ride is aimed at newcomers and the pace is set to the slowest rider. If we got fairly seperated we would stop and re-group. They were a couple people (also first club ride) who said they would bring up the rear as not to hold anyone up. We put them to the front and worked so much better.
