Well I did it! Jumped in with both feet into this cycling malarkey, ripon cycle club 09:00, we did 46 miles in 2:51 into the strongest winds I've ridden in, I found it hard towards the end (the last 26 miles were head winds) some guys were faster and stronger then others and we did get split into smaller groups, but all in all it was a good experience and I'll be back out with them again (weather depending) next Sunday.

Nice one! I really need to join my local club but at the moment I always have an excuse not to go!

I've not had the balls to go in a club ride. Every Friday i check their website and see the planned Saturday route but the length of the ride just puts me off. Is always 65-75 miles. The maximum I've ever done is 43 miles by myself. Would riding in a group make it easier and make me complete the distance?
I don't have experience riding in a big group either. Only with one or two inexperienced mates like myself.

I've ridden in a couple of rides and found my average speed jumped up by a couple of mile an hour! I just sat at the back of the pack to get the tow. I'd only ridden in a group of 3 prior to this in close proximity.
Go for it!
I always say to them that if I drop off the back then not to worry as I'll just make my own way, but they do wait for me or send one or two back to ride with me

Good stuff. I joined a club a couple of years ago and I've been fine for pace/distance, although I'm still not great in groups.

@San Marco - distances and attitude will depend on the club. Most are OK with slower riders; I'll have my 10 year-old out on the club run this morning and we'll be on the shorter of their two Saturday runs at about 30 miles. Riding in a group always makes the distance easier and speed slightly faster simply because there's less time into the wind.

if you done try it,how do you know if you can do it or not. You'll take to it like a duck to water,I'm meeting a friend today 36 miles away, I could take the car, but I'm setting off at 0800 and taking the giant lol
