I did my second 25 mile commute in Central London today and it was also my first clipless ride. I'm pleased to report that I had no 'moments' but I did come close. On one occasion, I unclipped and, as I was sidling up to the lights, unwittingly re-clipped! I also had a couple of times when I unclipped one side and then realised my weight was going the other way!

Otherwise, a little foot discomfort for the first 10 miles or so and then it seemed to pass. It does seem to help so I'm pleased that I've switched. I bought DHB M1.0 SPD shoes and Shimano SPD A530 pedals, just for the record and I'm pleased with both.

Clipless is one of the best things I ever did... even a few 'moments' haven't gone towards swaying me fromt hat opinion!

You'll find that the moments usually come in a moment of panic (emergency stop, not woken up properly) when you are relying on instinct rather than calculated movement. Your instinct is to pull your foot UP, not twist!

I'll be going on my first clipless ride tonight and first time out with a club... this could be embarrassing! :/

First clipless ride 25 miles in central London. Never been there but see a lot of video of it. You are a much braver person than I am. Nice job

Glad you are enjoying them, I certainly am more than anticipated! One trick I learned from riding heavy motorbikes at very low speeds was to slightly turn the handlebars towards the side you intend to put your foot down just before the bike stops. This will push the center of gravity on the inside and help you stop the way you intended.

Well done, they are what I got.

Having come from clips, I have always had to think about releasing the foot in one way or another.

Well done! The biggest difference I found once going clipless is how much more comfortable it is, the more rigid soles make the pain I would sometimes get in my foot when on soft soled shoes almost go away.
