This morning I went for only my second ride since September and managed to have my first clipless moment. Did 15 miles overall, but half way decided to stop and have a break. Got my left foot out ok, but then toppled, none too gracefully, to my right and ended up on the tarmac with the bike on top of me! No one around to witness my embarrassment and no harm done apart from a grazed knee. After a bit of cursing I then saw the funny side. Completed my ride with no further mishap.

Congratulations !:bravo: You are now a real cyclist/wally  ! :wahhey:

I have found, after a number of attempts, that the very best (only) way to deal with clipless moments is to laugh  while on the ground.

Glad you and the bike are OK too. ^_^

Haven't had a clipless moment for a while but know that I'm now tempting fate! First one was at the school gates where I teach with the world watching

haha - Day 2 on my first road bike today, and a fantastic 30 mile ride to Southend on Sea from my home in Rayleigh. Had my second clipless moment on Southend seafront, on the prom, in full view of passing walkers!
As I glided towards the sea wall, I was thinking "yeah, look at my lovely new bike...." only to forget to unclip completely, and topple to my right with both feet still fully clipped in on impact with the ground.
A kind fella enquired how I was as I lay on the ground laughing, and a few people were obviously very amused as they walked by sniggering!
Oh well, hopefully I won't feel as tempted to "pose" in future, and will remember to concentrate as I come to a halt!

Steve,

I'm in Rayleigh, try getting to Wickford Market on a Sunday Morning at 9.15 for a CTC ride. Fairly relaxed pace (so much so that it puts some off) however there is a quicker faster group. There are a few of us from Rayleigh. They sometimes do a ride along the seafront then onto wakering dropping back into Rochford for some breakfast.

Back on Topic probably putting the kiss of death on it since going clipless I have not had a clipless moment however I did have one prior to going clipless with toe straps!!

Thanks for the info regarding the Wickford ride. I'll try and get along to that sometime (although with a bit of trepidation!)

My last clipless moment was outside a busy train station right in front of the bus stop with its rush hour queue (as I greeted a parent at my children's school who I hardly knew and forgot to clip out as I stopped..........timber!!) I'd say you got off lightly taking a tumble with no-one in sight.

I didn't have my first clipless moment for about 120 miles.. and then promptly toppled over infront traffic lights in the middle of Slough, much to the amusement of all around me!

Still not had my proper clipless moment yet.. Though I did manage to miss clipping in pulling away at some lights, pressed down hard on the pedal and slipped, leaving a huge bruise on my shin.. Ouch!

Well being a cocky git defo doesn't help. It's NOT going to happen to me. Then deployed the 'on the breaks whilst softly pedalling routine' between two cars up to a set of traffic light....it's about to change ....it's about to change.......ITS about tooooo change! PLEASE CHANGE ...PLEASE KING CHANGE!! BANG on floor knee taking the full impact. Embarrassed? erh yeah as on the other side of the road was a bus full of Japanese tourist girls laughing their heads off. OHH YOOOK FAT BLOKE fall off bike! Have to admit it's pretty tricky picking up the bike giving the impression that you meant that to happen.
