I have committed to a sportive ride on Sunday, Tour de Mon which is 106 miles around the Island I live on, I will have a 17 mile ride to and from the venue which will give me a 140 total miles for that day, I am really looking forward's to it and a little bit nervous at the same time.

The course is relatively easy with no hard climbs to speak of, there are hill's but none that I can't manage.

I am a little concerned about clothing to wear as I will have the same gear on all day and don't want to freeze or over heat, I am thinking about either Summer Tight's and a T-Shirt with arm warmer's or a full sleeved Jeresy that is better suited for spring or autum.

food and drink is not a problem, one being that there are organised stop's and I plan to carry a few gel's some bananas and nuts, and have 2 water bottle's.

also are banana skins classed as litter, as the organisers state that any one caught littering will be disqualified, might ask this when I pick my number up.

As usual the Guardian has the answer to your littering dilemma, but I must admit I do generally chuck them.

I'd wear shorts this time of the year. If it rains your legs will dry quicker than tights. I'm a big fan of arm warmers, those with a light wind/water proof should cover every eventuality.

Good luck.

The hardest part I found is the mental challenge, not knowing what to expect, thinking it's too far etc.
Your legs will hurt but that's part and parcel of cycling, as long as you're hydrated and fed it should be no problem.

What is the furthest you have ridden so far? I would say that the 106 on reasonably flat course is doable by anyone who has ridden 75ish miles, but would be concerned that you are in fact talking about 140 miles.
As to clothing went out yesterday wearing my long sleeves for the first time and it was too hot, wished I had short sleeves and arm warmers, just in case.

not sure if I mentioned it in my original post but this is a home run for me, it's were I live and train, I know the route like the back of my hand, and have completed 2/3 of it before bordem set in.

Distance is not an issue, the only reason I have not done a centuary yet is that I get bored at around 60 miles and usually head home, the most I have done to date is 75 miles in one run, I average 200 miles a week and broke 900 miles last month
I will go with the T-Shirt and arm warmers

thanks for all your reply's
