I cycled from Edinburgh to Eyemouth today and experienced my first big hills - the Lammermuirs. Garmin route here.

I spotted signs for a 1:7, a 17% and a 14%. At other times the Garmin showed the gradient as high as 11-12% without there being any signs! I wonder if they stopped installing them for gradients under a certain value for fear of bankrupting the council otherwise ;o)

It was very enjoyable ride in decent weather although the wind was in my face quite a bit.

The first warning!

After ~25 miles this sign was a bit scary! It doesn't look that steep - probably because it's already about a 10% gradient where the sign is!

I did stop at one point when the Garmin read 20% - but is was only to take a photo of the wildlife ;o)

(I think these birds should have a little hip flask round their neck, like a St Bernard ;P)

Slight detour due to bridge on B6355 being closed 5M from Chirnside, and I finally arrived in Eyemouth where I found my wee boy and his granny, and we watched my better half doing her first Triathlon - she was placed 3rd lady!

Thanks scoosh for the message and well wishes. Hope everyone else had a good weekend.

Cheers,

You've found the infamous Redstone Rig (photo 2) .

Congratulations to Mrs Edindave on her success - and on her first triathlon, too!

I think I did take the easy option - last night and today the legs haven't felt like I did anything much yesterday. Hopefully a sign that I'm getting stronger/fitter.

Awesome route that HLaB. Love it!
I'd like to be able to do Berwick and back next year... need to keep building up the distance.

So that's Redstone Rig eh... well I'm v pleased I didn't have to walk up it! ;o)

Mrs still can't believe how well she did/how much she enjoyed the Novice Triathlon.

Good times!
