Just got back from doing my first 50 miles, and boy am I knackered. I'm moving out in a couple of months (found the house, just have to wait) and thought I'd see the route from my new house to work, and then I just carried on past my new place for another few miles which took me up to only 16 miles, so thought I could go for 50km, and when I got there I thought screw it, I got 2 50 mile rides next month, I'll just go for it.

The ride didn't start out well, 2 miles in while looking behind fell down a little ditch on the side of the road and scraped my side, but after a few more the pain went and just carried on going. Got to the 29 mile mark and grabbed a sandwich and some Chewits (needed sugar) as well as some apple. After that for 5-10 miles I was struggling, I probably should have rested for a bit and let the food settle, but at the 40 mile mark I perked up again and carried on to the end, with a few miles left it started to rain, but pushed through it and made it!

I'm so happy I've finally done it once, so it shows when I do those 50 mile rides (Liverpool-Chester-Liverpool) and the Great Manchester Cycle I can actually do it! To the guys who helped me up when I fell down on Heath Lane thanks!

Well done!!! I'm only up to 20 miles currently but want to go further in the summer.
Was hoping to be at 50 this summer but health issues have stopped me.

That's brilliant, you should be dead proud of yourself!

The only annoying bit on the ride is that my giro gloves that have done less than 300 miles have split in half on the right hand.

My legs feel fine this morning, apart from where I grazed myself.. But my arms are feeling a bit sore. Is that normal or is it a bad set up?

Hard to say. Might have injured yourself, falling into the ditch. May be a bad element of bike fit, or just plain old lactic acid burn. Any which way, you've done a good job. Congratulations on your 50 miler, now on to 100k!
