Yep I finally got round to doing my first ever 100 mile ride, just over 1 year since I started cycling to work on a BSO.

Absolutely knackered even though I did it slower than I hoped, 8hrs 40 mins at an average speed of 11.8 mph. I had 30-40 mins worth of rest stops and also had to back track up a very steep hill to retrieve my phone which escaped from my jersey pocket at 35+mph!!! It still works but has a few scratches on the case.

I have now become terrified of long twisty downhill sections after nearly coming a cropper on a 20% incline above Llangollen (where I lost my phone), bone shattering ride on the surface and blind bends when the rims are getting very hot from braking. I probably should've walked down as I really think I could've killed myself, I will leave high speed descents to nice smooth and open roads which are safer and more fun, the Horseshoe Pass comes to mind.

I had to walk up a section at Glyn Ceriog which ramps up to over 20%! It was torture trying to crawl up it, even in my lowest gear I wasn't getting up it on two wheels.

Anyway here is the route which I uploaded to MMR.

Very well done! The achievement of the 100 is fantastic & with those hills you should be extra proud of yourself! I'm also with you on the scary downhill thing....I chicken out early on & get off to walk!

After that ride my knees were knackered, so stiff and painful I could barely move them after a few hours, better now though as they seem to have been freed up. My cleats are set up to match the natural outward pointing nature of my feet and I have no problems on my commuting machine, the tourer. It is just the road bike that gives problems and I believe it might be the saddle. I think it might be too low but the post is seized into the tube and won't budge, alloy stem and steel frame.
