Hi all,

I took up cycling around 3 months ago, and have been training pretty regularly since.

I'm considering entering my first 100mile next weekend and wondering if any experienced riders have any advice on if this is within my range, based on the training I've been doing-

My biggest single ride is 60 miles, and I'll regularly (once a week) do a 50 mile ride, which climbs about 2,600ft according to the app I use.

I've covered just over 1000 miles since mid may, although I've not been able to train often as possible due to work commitments for a couple of weeks, picking up my training last weekend and covering a 25, 30, and 50 (with 2.6km climbs) in the past few days. I'm planning a 60, then 70 in the next few days, all solo rides.

I understand about the nutritional and played tram sport all of my life so have a good levels of natural fitness, but not having vast cycling experience I'm slightly concerned if there's anything to worry about hitting greater distances? I know with these things you can suck it up and plough on, but the last thing I want is to be unprepared and cause any problems!

Cheers guys

Gary

If you are doing 50 miles each week you should be able to do 100. Take plenty of fluid, you will proportionally drink more on a 100 miler than a 50 miler, take your time and enjoy it. You will be knackered at the end of it!

Did my first 100+ last Saturday. Read all the advice/training stuff to do it. Damn near psyched myself out of it. Then, on the day, no bother. Water and Jelly Babies rule.

You'll do fine with the kind of miles you are already doing.

You don't give much info on your background or when the event is and I am unsure what tram sports are  but it doesnt sound like you are far off, regulary doing 50milers and the occasional 60miler, go for it
Team sports....ha!
The ride is next Sunday. Cheers for the advice guys, think I'll sign up and up the distance for a big ride this weekend.

I'll order the Skittles in bulk...

When I did my 100 miler I was worn out and now realieaed I didn't took enough fluid with me. But that said I did take it slowly as not to use all my reserves up make sure you allow enough time time too ( make sure you stop for grub) I started at 0620am and had done by 16.35.
Hope you enjoy it

I am also about to do my first 100 miler on 1st Sept, my biggest single ride has been 65miles with about 3500 ft of climbing, which coincidentally is about the same as the 100 mile course. I have been riding a couple of months but not covered as many miles as you. Dont have too many doubts aout being ale to do it I will be aiming for 6 hours. Sure you will be fine.

Cheers mate. I take plenty of food for just a 50 mile, so prepared for the hunger kicking in.

The Manchester ride? The same one I'll be on. I read that the course is pretty flat, I tend to head towards hills, so I'm hoping I'll be able to notice the difference.

I've just finished lejog where I did 8 cosecutive days of 100 miles plus, for me it was, a steady start to get your legs and lungs going, food and fluid and be prepared for the weather turning. other than that as others have said, relax and enjoy it the miles will just drift by. And after re-carb and hydrate.
Good luck.

If you only have a week to your ride, don't do long rides. Reduce your riding and rest. On the day make sure you drink and eat enought. It's too late to experiment not but a gel every 30 mins works for me and a bottle of water per hr. make sure you have a decent breakfast. Porridge is good.

Good luck and enjoy it.
