Fine Tuning Gears

How do you "fine tune" shimano ultegra rear mech. OK on big front ring, but on small ring it's slightly (not much) rough. I'm sure I've seen a link to this but any help would be great. Please don't tell me I should have bought campag.

No secret code fudgedog, Rohloff is an alternative to derailleur type gears frowned upon by some, hence the ffs.
