I've acquired a frame which has a (excellent) bottom bracket (ISO) of approx. length 113/114mm already in place.

Does anyone know if I could fit either of my spare Stronglight 80 or Stronglight 100 chainsets (both doubles) ? Would the spindle be long enough ?

Failing that, does anyone know of a double chainset that does require a 113/114mm ISO BB ?

Thank you

According to this, a stronglight 80 e.g. is designed for iso bb's, BUT which chainset can be used is dependent on what chainline your bike is designed to have. The late great Sheldon has a bb database and associated links that might be of help.

Indeed. It's one of those things that can be a nightmare.

Have you a front mech already? Or will you need to get one? Most mechs have a preferred operating position (I don't mean swing) as determined by the seat tube angle. If it was a std road frame you'll probably be fine - but it's worth being aware. At worst, it mightn't mean the mech wouldn't work but it might be fussy to set up and mean a bit of a ropey shift at the extremes. Equally, the chainstays on a frame (as well as bb length) can play a part in both type of chainset and chainline.

I suspect normally that there's no problem, since obviously frames are designed to use available components, but it can be a problem if you're mixing and matching; especially if you're doing something like putting an MTB triple on a road frame, or vice versa etc.
