Finally after all these weeks managed to pick up my new bike (second hand but mint condition) Cube Agree GTC - I keep smiling every time I walk past her

I didn't want to buy a new bike as I want that to be a goal I work towards to give me extra motivation. However I have to say that these past few weeks looking have been a pain in the but! Mainly because I'm a fussy bugger and kept changing my mind.

Anyway going to take her out now for a quick spin

Awesome   to be honest I was a bit nervous beforehand as I have never ridden a road bike and was worried about how I would get on with using the hoods and drops, but couldn't believe how comfortable and at ease I felt on them. I found the bike to be be a lot sturdier then I thought it would be with those narrow wheels lol but still so agile.

Such a great feeling when you put pressure on the pedals (even a small amount of pressure) and it just reacts, the acceleration is amazing and boy does she fly.

It's pretty flat around here but there is a shortish hill and I swear I flew up it faster then I've ever been able to go down it on other bikes, even if those othe bikes were the cheap/nasty mountain bikes from halfords.

Done about 8 miles, wish I could have stayed out longer but had other things to do, it felt like I was only out for 10 mins I was having so much fun. Bum's a bit sore but that will go soon, can't wait to get out again tomorrow.

These lightweight bikes do get a wriggle on don't they? I can still remember that self same feeling of acceleration with a kick on the pedals, and in fact I still feel it now after some hundreds of miles.

I had a trip out to the road I used to live on in Flyford Flavell the other day, called Old Hill, which as the name suggests is a bit of a hill. Short, but brutish. At least it was on the Pashley. The Boardman just whizzed up it though, on the dog ring too, and I was well impressed.

That sore rear will eventually fix itself with time, little but often riding wise should help. Enjoy.

I had a similar feeling only 4 months ago. I spent the last 4 years of riding a 15kg touring bike everywhere, and I mean everywhere: the Victorian Alps, my daily work commute, various other places. It's a Vivente World Randonneur - a lovely bike, but given the amount of climbing I like to do, I was ready (and my wallet was finally ready) for something lighter and faster.

So I spent a few weeks discussing the merits of various bikes and groupsets, etc. with the Bicycle Victoria forum guys over here, then bought a Specialized Roubaix Expert SL4, including a 2.5 hour fairly detailed fitting session, from a local bike shop. It weighs 8kg, without the various attachments I would normally bring on rides, so not much over half the weight of the tourer. After doing roughly 1000km on the new bike, I'm still surprised by how light and fast it is .

I can definitely relate to the OP's feeling right now.
