Moooorning!
Feeling good this morning, hadn't been out on the bike since last Sunday's easy 120km audax, partially because I have got stupidly addicted to FIFA 11 on the Xbox again, partially because I am eyeing myself up for a new job and have been waiting on phone calls and I am ashamed to say partially because I had lost a smidgen of motivation.
Bank holiday came and the weather has been so good that I ended up spending most of it topping up a tan and gradually got lazier and lazier!
Decided that I needed a new route to attack, so planned one out on bikehike last night about 45 miles and set off this morning at 7.15am. Initially poor scenery, Bradley stoke through to Bristol city centre, but I needed it for the beauty of a view that was to come, sunrise whilst cruising across the Clifton suspension bridge, I have never rode it before, have been over on the car many times, but wow what an experience!!! Zoomed out towards Wraxall, Nailsea and Clevedon, even passed the lane Jo Yeates was tragically murdered back at xmas which was weird. Up over towards Portishead and the sun was getting strong at this point. Was really enjoying myself again, saw plenty of cyclists and pedestrians alike, each were greeted probably a little bit too over-enthusiastically. Unfortunately the climb over the M5 Avonmouth bridge wasn't such an awesome experience, quite a climb and the scenery was hardly breathtaking and then into the slums of West Bristol that are Lawrence Weston, the National Cycle route probably couldn't be anymore "anti-cycling" if it had been laden with tacks. Those bloody kissing gates to stop motor-vehicles going down make it incredibly difficult to negotiate clipless! Luckily I didn't come off, but it slowed my progress somewhat, in the future will stick to the roads here!!!
Continued onto Hallen and rejoined the Avon-Cycleway route 10 a popular LEJoG thoroughfare I reckon what with the Severn Bridge less than 10 miles away, diverted away back towards home and got off the bike nicely at about 10am, averaged 16.3mph, the stretch just before the Avonmouth bridge and through Lawrence Weston really slowed me down.
Anyway, don't usually boast about a ride, but feel extra good today and am really looking forward to the 100km Audax from Alveston which is less than 2 weeks away now!
