OK... I might buy my new bike this weekend, just wanted a few opinions. Should I go for a 2008 wilier mortirolo that is in the sale at my LBS for £1000 or save for quite a bit longer and buy a spesh tarmac elite from a further away bike shop? I am only 17 btw and on about £25 a week so saving takes a loooooong time.

thanks

I would go for the Cannondale you originally listed. But there you go.

Whats the bike for?
Racing, long Sunday rides?

At your age if I had that much I would have kept half of it in the bank, I was more boring then than I am now! Still at 21 I bought my first house because I'd saved for the deposit .... bear it in mind.

Two thoughts:-
1. you're surely not going to be riding your "new" bike in the next 3 or 4 months anyway, so what's the hurry?
2. always worth having a good relationship with your LBS: couldn't you negotiate with them over the next month or two for just what you want when you're ready to ride it.

Go for the one that looks best. You'll be surprised by how long you can spend just staring at your bike!!!!!

Buy the one you want to buy. Life is too short too settle for the alternative.

Wouldn't bnother buying it now anyways, have you seen the waether forecast for the next two months. Wait till after the crimble sales at least

I know I'm in a minority here but I'm always baffled by people 'on £25 a week' who propose buying new. You get sooooooooooo much more for your money second hand, and any new bike, especially a good one, might just as well come ready fitted with 'steal me' stickers.

I have a real job that pays proper money (also a family, admittedly) and I've never spent more than about £150 on a bike - and I fly around town. Vitus 979. Eat my dust.

I'm kind of with swee'pea99 on this.

The Giant SCR is a good enough bike and, at you age (not to be patronising), I wish I had one.

You can go much faster on it still by gaining extra fitness. Maybe change one or two things on it.

Maybe put the money aside for a rainier day and keep adding to it. Spending money on bikes is a slipper slope. What you already have is more than good enough. The danger is that you will keep thinking you want a better bike, no matter what you have!

Indeed. On a recent trip to visit so visit some friends, I had taken my old Raleigh 20 in the boot and had took a trip through gravelled forest tracks on it when a crowd of teenagers on dual suspension mountain bikes were laughing at my bike, I took great delight in passing them going up a hill. Amazing what can be done with sheer determination and a 3 speed hub:thumbsup:

I remember when I was your age, I really wanted a sailing dinghy, could have afforded one too, all I wanted was a little bit of support from my father, I never got it or the dinghy, (got one now though) my point is do what ever is in your heart and don't let any one tell you different!

Good luck.;)
