Decided to watch the classic film Convoy again a couple of nights back. Haven't seen it since it's release in 1978, but when it came to the part where the truckers were careering through the very dusty mountain road, I realised that despite the 'dramatic cinematic effect' of the ride, I had absolutely no recollection at all of that particular part - !
Many other scenes I remember yes, but not that bit - !
Funny thing memory - !

A lot of films are 're-cut' for various formats, directors cut etc or shortened/lengthened to suit. I remember watching Quadrophenia once on TV, no Leslie Ash having a 'knee trembler' behind the gate after they'd escaped the police.

If this thread is about "memory" ...

Driving the car yesterday and suddenly remembered that my car tax ran out at the end of the last month. Only four days late, but I was on edge all the way home and taxed the car online.

The main reason for me forgetting, is that for some reason, I'm not getting reminder letters.

I hear you say, it could happen to anyone.

But last year, the same happened and I didn't remember until I got a fine! So that I would remember the next time, I did a reminder on my mobile. But earlier this year, I lost my phone and didn't set my new phones calendar.

If the same happens again, I'll let you all know ... If I remember.

Did the same with my car MOT this year (about 6 weeks out of date). Not sure if it's a memory thing, or just a consequence of now driving a car that I don't care much about. In past decades of driving more interesting cars I was a bit OCD about all things to do with them. They got washed/polished/maintained regularly. Not now...... The motorbike still does; but not the car!

Not seen the movie, but do remember the CB radio craze back then. I wasn't into it, but a lad at college was, in a big way. He had an expensive rig in his old banger car, and one of those aerials that looked like a fishing rod. His call sign was lamppost, and he said this was because he was tall and bright. He was well over six foot, so guess he was half right

I sat through almost all of Raiders of the Lost Ark on C4 and then they cut the bit where Toht's face melts.

I bought the DVDs after that.

I knew someone that was into that, we used to use his rig and shout "SIDE!" on various channels as we tried to get people to acknowledge us, when they did we just used to play music and shout at them. I don't think we were contributing much to the community 👿

I was watching Last of the Mohicans on TV. Munro was looking a bit the worse for wear and Magua was looking peckish. Suddenly Magua had a bloody mouth and was walking away from Munro's corpse. I'm sure that something*** had happened in between...

*** I had watched the uncut version years before so I know what was missing! Obviously, it was considered a bit too strong for a delicate TV audience...

During the height of the CB craze I remember a course on radio etiquette and procedures for cave rescue (for surface comms not underground) and we were reminded that it was not necessary to speak with an American accent.

When I was a peeler back in the early '70s, we had the 'Ten code' radio system. Thus 10 - 1through to 10 - 10 each meant something specific rather than having to relate a message to control.
The only one I can recall all these years later is 10 -9 which meant 'Officer in need of immediate assistance.' - !

A new worker in a Unit across from me at work gave me some waffle about looking online at cars like mine as he was thinking about buying one. Said he then looked at Road Tax rates - and ‘happened to then notice’ 🙄 I was 6 weeks out of MOT.

I got a slot right away and passed with flying colours. Most unlike me: and I’m sure I signed up for email alerts (I’ve done again for the next one).

Not big or clever. And I’m lucky I didn’t get stopped, clicked on camera, had an accident or anything else where my uselessness would have caused me problems 😳

As An Aside; there is a replica in this country, of the Mack RS700L, as near as is legally allowed anyway!!! (lighting/length/etc..)
I haven't see it yet, but have seen the guys Kenworth W900 'Snowman' replica, he also has a '78 Trans-Am now that appears alongside it
