Unless you are looking at serious off roading IMO you'd be better to stay away from suspension, it just an unnecessary extra weight and poorly adjusted/cheaper suspension seems to be energy sapping; anybody I've seen with it on smooth roads are bouncing up and down more (as it reacts to their pedalling motion) than moving forward. The specialized brand is good though so other than that it should be a good bike.

MrJamie

Oaf on a Bike
Its a nice bike for leisurely rides, a friend of mine rides one and likes it. My bikes very very similar (Giant's version) and its helped me get into cycling and want to get out which is the main thing. Its very versatile and will be decent on roads, while still being able to ride muddy trails and towpaths etc. You can lock the suspension out on the roads so it doesnt bounce and its nice to have it on rough trails and poor roads, and a big range of gears helps with hills.

I think youll be happy with it, you can always put more roadish tyres on and lock the suspension if you find youre only doing road cycling, but you may find some nice trails instead and when youre addicted to cycling and want to upgrade, itll make a nice 2nd bike ;)

If you go on the road then just lock out the suspension (waste of time/'energy if you leave it on). It's great off-road though (even on variable towpath etc). I've got a Specialized hybrid and love its versatility - you'll need to switch to skinny tyres if you want to really move it on the tarmac though.

I prefer to use my arms/legs as suspension on tow paths rather than carrying the extra weight but each to their own, I'm glad you are enjoying your spesh; I've got a spesh sirrus and its been good bike
