I was having a chat with a work colleague the other night, bemoaning my headset had come loose on the way in to work and how my tune-up kit was at home etc, when he mentioned that he had a micro-kit in the shape of a bottle to fit inside a bottle cage. It splits into two, revealing tyre levers, p******* repair kit and allen keys.

Has anyone seen anything like these? Not so sure I want a bag under my seat as that's the only place my lights can realistically go.

Just get a normal bottle, bung the gear in and top up with foam to stop it rattling.

I use two empty plastic Skippy Brand peanut butter jars screwed together.

There are many plastic containers that are ± 75 mm ø that could be used as a storage container that fits into a bottle cage; Pringles tubes, Eucrly tooth paste, guttering down pipe, etc. Sort of related, but one of my craft projects, here is a step-by-step photo of my craftwork pencil cases just to give you some idea of what can be done to make a custom container that meets your requirements;

I used to have one, the tools were cheap and nasty, you end up carrying stuff you don't use and if one tool breaks you're looking for something exactly the same size to replace it.  So not a recommendation

Perhaps something like this "Pro Storage Bottle" might be suitable for your needs? I am tempted to pick one up with my next order at CRC, now that you've made me aware of it's existence (I only searched for it after seeing this thread).
I use one of those, it's fab!
Holds plenty of stuff for a long day out and has the added benefit of keeping the weigh down low rather than high-up and swinging off your saddle (as well as freeing-up rear light real estate). Additionally it's easy to transfer from bike to bike.
Buy with confidence.

Cage Rocket? Not an endorsement as I don't have one.

All that, with the addition that I got the 750ml version and it's Fab!

you could just buy a tool bottle for £3

Pro and BBB make them, along with several other brands.

I found that everything rattles like crazy so stopped using it and went back to small bag under saddle.

In the summer they also prevent you from carrying enough water so I'm not a big fan.

I was just looking at this after Saundie mentioned it in Post #4, looks good and will fit in with my paintwork (Grey/Black/Silver)

Torn between that and the smaller one...hmm!

This is my main concern, when cycling along a normal (i.e. bumpy) road, I'll sound like a charity collector waving a tin about!

My friend seemed to indicate that the one he's got had specially cut holes for the tools, eliminating rattle. But he didn't buy them as he got them as a gift so wasn't much further help

I haven't noticed it as a problem. The tools I keep in there (leatherman, PRK, Park Tools hex set, couple of knives etc) are mostly of the long'n'thin variety and they tend to nestle down and lodge themselves pretty quickly.

If you only put a few things in there, you might find it an issue but a wad of newspaper or something should cure it.

Quite like the look of one of those myself, maybe a rag or 2 to stop the rattle, also you then have a hand wipe if you need one.

Have added the 750ml one to my ever growing 'wishlist' at CRC.
