It's time to give my new bike a good clean, and I was wondering what to use to clean the old lube off along with general light road dirt before I re-lubricate.

My local bike shop gave me a couple of tubes of Fenwicks FS-1 Bike Cleaner in a sort of a single shot toothpaste tube thing on a free trial. He says he uses the same stuff neat in the shop to degrease chains and cassettes, and he uses it diluted for wheels and frame etc.
Is this stuff any good compared to what else is on the market these days? I see it's designed by people who make cleaning products for motorhomes so I do wonder... I sort of half worry that he gives it away because he's trying to shift more of it.

Similarly, he gave me a free 500ml can of Fenwicks professional lubricant spray and I wonder if that's any good. It smells and feels a lot like WD40 to me, but then I guess most lubricants are a light fuel distillate.

Thanks!

FS-1 is excellent stuff, I haven't used it for my frames but it does an excellent job on chains and cassettes. No need to worry

Thank you, that's good to hear. I know that IBS's are generally good sources of advice and products but my local one is very small and seems bound to a certain catalogue for his stock, and I'd never heard of Fenwicks.

I'm an ex bike shop mechanic (many years back now) but some of the newer makes and products are alien to me at the moment after a long hiatus from cycling. I'll give the Fenwicks stuff a go, thank you for your views.
